TEACHING/MUSIC INSTRUCTION

As a music educator, my primary goal is to help my students to unlock the inner joy of playing music. This is accomplished by building their self esteem and encouraging them to have fun while playing.

When a students has fun playing their instrument, it opens pathway to wonderment. That moment when a student begins to wonder about what is possible on their instrument, is recognized as being transformative – the imagination takes over!

Once we build a student’s self-confidence, and give their musical education a firm root in the fundamentals of Technique, Reading, Critical Listening, and Dynamics, at that moment they are well on their way to becoming great musicians.

There is is no greater joy than seeing that “little light go on” in a students mind! Every student has their musical strengths and I work to enable my students to develop their unique talents.

Understanding that beginning the process of learning an instrument provides a daunting task to parents, I like to help ease my students and their families into the musical world. I often provide students with a drum kit for lessons, as most beginners have no equipment. Once the parents are confident that their child with stick with playing, I then help them to secure great equipment for the lowest price possible. More than just a teacher, I strive to become a mentor for all of my students, and an advisor to my student’s parents.

I currently have available lesson times throughout the week in various areas of Los Angeles. If you would like to discuss a free introductory lesson, feel free to contact me at johnmontgomerydrums@gmail.com.

From Claudia Langford, Mother of my student, Tyler:

”You know how some teachers just have ‘it’ – this intangible quality that  enables them to inspire and connect deeply with their students? John Montgomery is one of those teachers.

His passion for music is contagious, his enthusiasm uplifting, his drive to enable his students to succeed and thrive a joy to experience, and his ability to translate all of this into practical lessons, outstanding.

If you are looking for a drum teacher, give John a call right away and hope for an opening in his schedule. You are in for a treat : )
